Taking some time looking at life from different angles- does that happen
at the change of every season? You know when you get a hint that the world
around you is really moving- the light is different, the nights are cooler, the kids suddenly
are bigger, the cat is older- funny how time is continuous mostly~ except when you round a "corner"
so to speak and get a big picture view- just for a moment of how changed it really can be.

Last week a juvenile cardinal flew into our window and knocked himself out!
Luckily my son saw it happen and ran outside to find him- he was crumpled up on the grass looking
pretty miserable- like in an "Ugh my aching head!" kind of way
see below

We sat with him for about 20 minutes talking softly and stroking his feathers very gently
We tried to put him down a few times but he was really clamped onto
my Son's hand- it was a treat to be able to see one of these birds up close, and of course
nice to think we somehow managed to help him a little after this crisis...

But I suppose he would have managed fine on his own- he did us the favor of keeping his company
and we had quite a nice chat about if birds see stars when they hit their heads- like in cartoons or not :)

Back for a little peep in with a much happier "back" :)
Kids were in camp this past week so I got a lot of down time...
Started some new gouache paintings- (isn't gouache the best!)
and tended to some yard work that was being ignored.

Some fancy hair do the littlest came home with.
Now we are off to New Hampshire for a swimming weekend-
Hope yours is too!

Welcome August- when I should be officially "into" summer mode
fully right! Well it's true enough with the exception of  my back being out and in spasm
for the past week. This has me thinking or re thinking about how I take care of myself.
Not that I do a bad job but obviously there are areas that need attention- tight muscles firstly!
Sometimes the hardest thing in the world can be the letting go...letting go of expectations, schedules,
outcomes- all of life's adventures add up and I forget that flexibility is part of  being strong
- So my shift in attention for the later part of the summer is going to be on relaxation.
 I know ..."duh!"

Iceland Prt. 3

A few last pictures from around town

And a beautiful extinct volcano that now has a lake at it's center
My son below under an active, albeit dormant, volcano holding a piece of volcanic rock.
There are 130 volcanoes in Iceland :)

and a little snap of moi on the boat scouting for puffins
(my friend Barbara made me the super awesome hat)

Iceland Part 2

We stayed at a hostel while in Iceland that was very lively
and cozy at the same time...

Which was often a contrast to the nature all around us
Vast and moving with it's own rhythm -

There was a saying, "There is no such thing as bad weather just bad clothing"
that I saw a few places- and this is an environment that one should pay heed to
in that regard...

Reykjavik is a smallish city perched by the sea with it's own
unique character- quirky and enduring

With many hidden gems that will blow your mind :)

Iceland Adventure prt1

Getting back on my feet from our adventure to Iceland and Norway,
now I get to pull the pictures off the good camera to share
instead of my phone- which I love but let's face it-

It's all in the lens :)

There's so much to say about Iceland and the wildness of it.
It's overwhelming.
You just have to give yourself to it's wild and woolly nature
 and dress for the occasion

Then it will reveal it's magic to you :)
